Loving Lucille Ball!

One of my favourite all time comedies comes from the 60s is one starring Lucille Ball. I have only just discovered the myriad of Lucy show episodes available online. If anyone hasn't seen it, and is a lover of clean slapstick and silly comedy, I suggest you get familiar with Lucille Ball. Here's some help to get you started... (Click on the names to get more background info from Wiki).

"I Love Lucy" (1957-1960) Episode Guide.

Anyone remember the famous 60's show "I Love Lucy"?  Heard your parents talking about it? Here's your chance to find out about it.

I have been searching endless websites and finally found a place to watch at least the original black and white episodes here and here. They are pretty much all black and white, so if you don't mind that, its good fun (and clean comedy is so rare these days, that I love going back to the old sitcoms).

"The Lucy Show" (1962-1968) Episode Guide

Now I have most of seasons 5-6 already at home, minus a few missing episodes. While researching today, I discovered there are a whole 4 seasons of earlier episodes which I had not yet seen. Unfortunately, I have not really been able to find many of these earlier episodes, and so will have to relegate eventually purchasing them via Amazon. I did manage to find some on youtube, but they are scarce and hard to come by. I already did a fair bit of research, so if you want to find more episodes you will have to do it yourself. Because I've already seen many of them I didn't bother finding all the links. You can use the episode guide to help you. There are heaps of season 5-6 on you tube, but not many in the 2-4 range. Here are the ones I found, hopefully this is enough to get you started.

Most of season 1 is available here, and a few scant episodes from other seasons.
The Lucy Show: Lucy conducts the symphony [S02E13] (part one), (part two), (part three).
The Lucy Show: Lucy the disc jockey [S03E26] (part one), (part two), (part three).
The Lucy Show: Lucy and Joan (guest starring Joan Collins) [S04E04] (part one), (part two), (part three).

"Here's Lucy" (1968-1974) Episode Guide

This user on youtube has a great list of episodes from the later Lucy show. Alternatively you can try here, but not all episodes are available.

"Life with Lucy" (1986)

Was supposedly a bit of a flop and didn't do very well. However, I think its nice to see how an actor grows and changes over many years on television. I've only been able to find a few episodes.

Life with Lucy: World's greatest grandma (part one), (part two), (part three).
Life with Lucy: Lucy and the guard goose (part one), (part two), (part three).
Life with Lucy: Mother of the bride (link). Warning: really bad sound quality.

Now to finish, here is a famous Lucy trademark. It is Lucy's most loved face, used again and again throughout all 5 shows, nicknamed her famous "spider face". Enjoy!!

Rant about branded company-specific mobile phones

We've recently had new technology added to our household in the form of a phone. We bought 2nd hand what is normally a very expensive smartphone for a lower than low retail price (thanks Tim!). I thought, "Great! This is the phone I've been waiting for, and for quite awhile I might add!"

Imagine my suprise when we got the phone home, and most of the settings would not work. The phone was indeed unlocked and would work (mostly) with my current sim. Unfortunately, there are two models for this phone. There's the standard model, then there's the Australian model. There is absolutely no tech support for this phone on any website, not even the carrier for which the phone was created.

The annoyance I found was that the company (company name anonymous) had locked certain important features like mms and data, and no matter what settings we tried, it just simply would not work. We even inputted (is that a word??) the data settings manually as given to us by our current carrier (server address, gateway etc). The settings were exactly as they would have been on any other phone, and on any other phone this would have been sufficient enough to work. But no, even with the data settings manually installed on our phone, the phone simply would not let us use our own data connection. Put those settings in any other phone, and the data connection would be fine.

Unfortunately the advice I get from most people isn't all that helpful because the options are not in the same place, or just plain dont exist. It is not the standard model, and there isn't much tech support for it anywhere.

I even tried tech support for our current carrier. The operator was no help at all. Read straight from the manual for the standard model without actually offering ANY tech support. We tried explaining to them, "its the australian model, so it doesnt have the same options." Still insisted on reading from the manual. I understand that's all she had to go on, that's ok. Just didn't find any new help in tech support.

Setting up wifi from a hard reset seemed to be the only thing that worked somewhat. Now facebook uses wifi, and my windows live email account is the only one that doesnt try to use data. Gmail still wants data connection even within wifi range, but hey...I don't need to check my email every 5 minutes! I'm not that technology bound that I can't survive without it. Other than that, nada. Everything else wants data.

I guess we can't really complain. We got the phone at a bargain price, and it does everything we want it to do besides mms. As long as we are within wifi range, the phone does pretty much what we want it to. Outside of wifi range, it just acts like a normal phone. After all, who REALLY needs to check facebook or email on the run?

Still cant send mms, probably wont ever be able to unless we switch carriers back to the original...but its a small sacrifice compared to the benefits. Manual mms settings just do not register on this phone. If I wanted to send mms, I would have to switch carriers to the people who made the phone. Not going to do it based on principle. Phones are phones, and features should be made available to work with every carrier in the country it was made for. Simple.

I honestly dont think I'm going to get any further than what I have. I've given up. But hey, the benefits outweigh what we've lost :-) The only thing we've really lost is the ability to send mms. That's ok. I'm looking at the bright side. I have features I didn't have before, such as taking my bible with me on my phone wherever I go, I can edit and write my book from my phone without having to take an additional piece of equipment with me, I can listen to music without also having to take my mp3 player (plus phone) with me (because now my music player and phone are combined), I have a camera handy at all times and the ability to upload or email to the web(provided I have wifi), sync contacts and calendar with my computer...all of this and more in one piece of equipment. Previously, this would be require the aid of three separate pieces of technology, but is now all rolled into one. If I have to give up mms to gain all these benefits, so much the better.

I still don't regret the purchase. It just meant a frustrating week spent trying to figure out all the bugs. There are still a few bugs there, but bug spray won't help me (lol). I'm okay with the bugs. There's less than there was now, and I can handle not having mms.

I even learned a few things during that time. When pushed, I can be easily frustrated at things and have trouble dropping them until I can figure them out. But now I'm okay with the situation, and have already found this piece of equipment a useful tool, both for myself and also for my husband. Its amazing how God can teach you things about yourself through everything that happens in your life. He has an uncanny knack for doing so, even over the smallest things!
